Exhibition by 'Douglas Diaz'
In ‘LOVE’, Douglas Diaz explores three specific aspects of love: loving oneself, loving others and loving God. His quest to gain a comprehensive understanding of what defines love takes on a personal dimension. Utilising a series of writings and illustrations, he dives into a series of intimate drawings that narrate the coming of age of unrequited courtship.
Employing graphite against a black background, which appears to take on a metallic and often reflective quality, the perfect medium is achieved to explore the delicate balance realised by loving another - whether it be a friend, family member or partner.
Shifting scales in his large canvas work, Douglas addresses the act of surrendering to the universe. In this body of work, love becomes the language to bridge the understanding between ourselves and a high power.
And finally amidst the two dimensional work there are a series of small 3D pieces, created in collaboration with Pornruedee Boonyapan, that provide the most intimate and personal aspects of the show.

THE KAREN HILLTRIBES TRUST 30 YEARS
The Karen Hilltribes Trust (KHT) is a community led organisation working with the Karen people living in Mae Hong Son, Thailand’s poorest province. KHT’s projects are designed, built and maintained by the communities who receive support, using their local knowledge. This approach achieves results which are high in impact, low in cost and sustainable. The vision of the Karen is a more self-sufficient future in which they can provide for their own basic needs.
This exhibition documents the history of KHT from is first project in 1987 to the present day, marking 30 years of partnership between the organisation and the Karen communities in Thailand. There have been significant improvements made to the health, livelihoods and educational level of the people who have been involved in projects funded to date, and yet there is still much work to be done. All the proceeds and donations raised at this exhibition will be directed to projects delivered next year, in 2018.
